Dancing the Mural a site specific dance theatre performance and is the unveiling of
Safos community mural entitled
"Color the Mural"
that approximately 300 community members from the South Tucson area voted on and painted over the course of two years (2013-2015).

All the dances were inspired by the community mural,
which reflects the 67+ year history of the
House of Neighborly Service in South Tucson.
"Dancing the Mural" will feature 7 dances and performers from Tucson and California, including:
Yvonne Montoya (Choreographer/Dancer, Tucson), Grace Rhyne (Choreographer/Dancer, Tucson), Carla Turco (Actress, Tucson), Jordane Lafitte (Composer/Pianist, Sacramento), Armando Castellano (Musician-French Horn, San Jose), Luis Escareño (Composer, San Francisco), Diego Campos (Choreographer/Dancer, Sacramento), Hugo Diaz (Choreographer/Dancer, Los Angeles), and Andrew Palomares (Dancer, Los Angeles). The show will feature community members (both youth and senior citizens) who will take the stage with professional performers.

Nomination for Governor's Arts Awards
We are proud to announce that we have been nominated for a 2015 Governor's Arts Awards in the community category for our work with the South Tucson community.
JANUARY
Safos fans! We are proud to announce we received a 2014-2015 Pima County Arts Project Grant from the Tucson Pima Arts Council.
For this project, choreographer Yvonne Montoya will create a dance theatre piece for senior citizens from the City of South Tucson.

June 23-27th Safos will be holding our FREE week long Color the Mural summer arts program for youth ages 8-14 at the House of Neighborly Service/La Escuelita in South Tucson!! Workshops are from 1-4pm daily!
Students will learn about mural and graffiti art, create their own personal mural, and help paint a permanent mural that will be featured on a wall at HNS!

Melissa Brown-Dominguez for being selected for the 2014 National Association of Latino Arts and Cultures (NALAC) Leadership Institute!
The 14th Annual Leadership Institute of the National Association of Latino Arts and Cultures- NALAC will take place July 14-19, 2014 at Our Lady of the Lake University in San Antonio, Texas.
Leadership Institute convenes Latino arts leaders for an intensive, one-week training in nonprofit arts management and leadership development. They provide critical training to the next generation of Latino artists and arts administrators from across the nation.

“Vignettes” is an evening of site specific and site adaptive performances of dance, poetry and music. This season, Safos’ choreographers and company composer teamed up with guest writers to create six new original works of art. Each piece is a collaboration between a choreographer, a writer and a composer and some of the dances will integrate visual art. The concert will feature dances about the following topics, banned text books, relationships, loss of a loved one, love, and joy. "Vignettes" will also feature a performance of Bus Stop Dreaming and an exhibition by visual artist Lyna Ward de Leyva.
