Safos Dance Theatre is proud to announce that we will be performing Yvonne Montoya’s piece “Braceros” at the Network of Ensemble Theatre’s 2018 NET National Gathering and Symposium in Tempe, AZ. “Braceros” is was created in loving memory of the choreographer's father Juan "Johnny" Montoya Sena. The dance reflects the time he worked as a Bracero, a migrant farm worker, picking watermelon and cantaloupe in the fields of Southern Arizona and Southern California in the early 1960

This weekend, lead choreographer Yvonne Montoya will be representing Safos in Tucson's first ever BLAKTINA: A Cutting Edge Movement Festival Celebrating Black and Latina/o Choreographers. Produced by the Latina Dance Theater Project, Eva Tessler, Licia Perea, and Zuzi! Theater, BLKTINA will take place October 2-3, 2015 7:30pm at Zuzi's Theater in the Historic Y. Over the past year, Safos lead choreographer Yvonne Montoya has been working with Tucson's own Borderlands Theater preparing for the upcoming world premiere of "Mas" a play written by Milta Ortiz and directed by Marc Pinate. Four of Safos dancers will take the stage with Borderlands actors for this drama based on a true story opening Sept 10th at the Temple of Music and Art.
